What is an oral appliance?
It is a custom designed and fitted, adjustable appliance which covers a portion of the upper and lower teeth or implants which gently positions the jaw in a manner to maintain an open airway. As this is treating a medical condition these are medical devices and must be fabricated at an approved FDA lab. Medicare requires additional lab certification. Like many medical devices these are covered through most health insurances including Medicare. We work with your physician or sleep specialist to provide you with the ideal Oral Appliance.
Do Oral Appliances Work?
Yes! While we can not guarantee any medical treatment the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) recommends oral appliances for those unable to use C-PAP. What is the AASM? The AASM is the organization which board certifies your sleep physician and credentials hospitals, educational facilities, and sleep centers. They are the experts in Sleep Medicine and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
How do I get an Oral Appliance?
It starts with a phone call. Once you contact us we appoint you for an exam. We also gather medical and dental information. We need your X-Rays as well as your sleep study and other records. The next step is a scan. We are a digital office and computers are used to design and fabricate the appliance. After the appliance is fabricated and delivered we follow our patients and adjust their appliance to optimum effect. We conduct validation tests to confirm effectiveness. Once your appliance is fully adjusted we send you back to your Physician.
