Signs and symptoms of sleep disorders vary from individual to individual but also due to the severity or type of sleep disorder. The most common signs and symptoms of an individual having obstructive sleep apnea is:

  • Snoring

  • Witnessed apnea (gasping or snorting whilesleeping)

  • Dry mouth

  • Morning headaches

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness (Epworth score  greater than 6)

  • Weight gain (or difficulty losing weight)

  • Diabetes

  • Hypertension

  • Congestive heart failure

  • History of heart attack or stroke

  • Men with neck circumference greater than 16 ½ inches or women with a neck circumference greater than 14 inches


Individuals may have different symptoms at different times of their lives as well, due to the severity of the sleep disorder.

If you exhibit the signs and symptoms, you should consider having a sleep consultation and undergo a diagnostic polysomnogram for proper evaluation.
